Overview
Prostaglandins are lipids found in nearly every tissue in human as well as other animals. They serve as locally active vasodilators and disrupt platelet aggregation. They are also involved in inflammation due to their role in vasodilation.
Prostaglandin D2 is produced by mast cells. It serves a critical role in the development of allergy-based diseases such as asthma.
